Chilly Wonk

When I was a child, my parents and grandmother, used to read to us, a lot. And one story, that still clings to me, has an ending that goes something like this: "...and the Wonks is going to get you, if you don't watch out!". My grandmother was also my Summertime tutor, and I never got used to how she could let Rudyard Kipling get away with the bad grammar, without being corrected--but not me. I never had a clear picture of what, exactly, a Wonk might look like, until I saw this cunning little mischief-maker, sitting up in the frozen bows of a tree. He appears to be watching the laughing children down below, just wondering how to spoil their fun. It looks like he is muttering some kind of foul observation, revealing a long, sharp tooth--one capable of making for a very bad day. I do like the little top-knot on his head, and the waxed-sharp down-tail in back. After seeing that tooth, though, I have to admit that I was kind-of glad to see he was frozen fast to the tree!!! ..although that might be the very cause of his distemper.

Released in the early Spring of 2010, the Chilly Wonk CD is a "Best of ..." collection, selected from the first six albums [but not including anything from Woa; Dude!!!]. There is a new rendition of my favorite Blues song on it, to keep things, at least slightly fresh, as a new release.
